Stop the flop?

063

Slow speed front end ‘flop’ was an issue that needed addressing on Mac’s XS – resolved simply by fitting a steering damper he found amongst his ‘parts that may come in handy one day’ cupboard.

you realise that it was the guy on the right riding the bike. Huge respect to the guy and to ‘The bike experience’  for giving people with severe disabilities the opportunity to get back in the saddle !

lids and leathers team

And a special thanks to our mates at the ‘Lids and Leathers’ park. These guys and gals worked for nothing all weekend raising money for the nominated charities – what’s more the kids went out and sold  side stand pucks for 50p each and raised an additional £114.

Top Team!!

Many Thanks to Sarah – Photographer for the BFoMC for the use of her photos,

As per usual, it was the last minute rush to get bikes ready for the Festival.

Mac and Heisenburg passed around the club horn for the MOT’s – this was of course after Heisenburg had been up all night finishing his bike off.

Macs was in for MOT first and having passed was left on site for the following days show. Alex (Heisenburg) put his in for the MOT but the examiner wasn’t sure what to make of the radical suspension, the examiner wasn’t even swayed by Alex’s new custom spray job – courtesy of a piece of net curtain from his daughters wendy house and a rattle can of Orange from the bargain bin at work.

Not to be beaten , at 2pm, after being failed, Alex returned home, stripped down the front end ‘knocked up’ a brass bearing for the calliper mount and returned for a re-test before 4.30 where it passed – what a legend.

Saturday…… setting up.

062

Sunday ….. Showtime!

Despite this being a first for Mac, Jay and Alex together  as a club they came out scoring well.

Mac got four out of five judges votes and got to ride in the Custom Parade and Alex and Jay only missed out by one vote each . Not a bad turn out considering ours are all shed built custom bikes.

The Bike that went on to win best of show was stunning – however it looked as though the owner had spent more than my house is worth on it – and (whilst I may be wrong) didn’t look the sort to spend too much time with oil under his nails.

Mac’s Harley

Should he or shouldn’t he?

Mac was considering selling the Harley this year having owned it for close to twenty years………

He  polished it up, took a few snaps for evilbay but then sat on it, fired it up and ……. well now it’s not so easy to say good bye to the old girl!

Alex. At it again

Heisenburg’s at it again , and again he’s left it to the last minute. A few days to go before the bike show and he’s decided to completely re-design the front end on his bike – and in true Alex fashion he hasn’t just opted to put a set of tele’s on it – oh no – he’s designed a totally new form of suspension involving a pivot at the base of the fork s with an internal piston pushing against an internal progressive spring set up.

Up until day break working on it, Mac and Jay popped round to drink his beer, offer advice (which he quite rightly ignored) and take the p#ss.

After a non biker pointed out that the bars looked like a push chair – jay finally admitted that we were right and put the drag bars back on.

He went on to adorn his Suzuki with some more pin striping –

The ‘Marmite’ Bike

(FLF Kawasaki KH250) Love it or hate it, you have to admit it’s different!

Mac found this ‘Beauty’ under a tarpaulin laid in some ones front garden, as he’d seen nothing like it before, he had to have it.

A few years on –  and every component part has been replaced, reconditioned or newly fabricated.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out with this one, especially with sourcing old parts and making new ones (like the fairing ‘bubble’).

Mac met a great bunch of blokes when building this bike and found out that if you look, there is a wealth of experience and knowledge right on your doorstep. The network of old school builders is out there – and they want to help!

It sounds and smells beautiful (for those who remember real two strokes).

Unfortunately she has to go to make some room in the garage – but will be on show at the bike festival next week.
